The Artist Statement
Isabelle Rizo is an award winning internationally exhibited artist. As part of the Romanian Diaspora, she uses her research in traditional Romanian folklore and brings a contemporary interpretation to her abstract multimedia works. Her emphasis on social practice and narrative invites community members to become participants in her artwork by allowing space for viewers to discover their own narratives. No theme is too hard or taboo when it comes to healing and Isabelle works as a death doula, occultist, and herbalist to deconstruct topics such as quality of life, slow sustainable living, madness and personal spirituality. ASPECTS OF SELF - Video and Painting Series
In this series of short experimental films, paintings, and performances I explore the complexity of human expression. Pyromania, Shyness, and The Inner Child have been exhibited internationally at "She Spoke" in Prague, CZ with accompanying paintings and live performances that create immersive experiences for the viewer to really question which aspect of themselves do these multimedia pieces bring up?
I hope that these multimedia pieces will go beyond cultural conditioning, social class, and spark civil conversation on humanity's universal needs for love, acceptance, resilience, community, and conscious self-expression.
