The Artist Statement
Improvisation, resourcefulness, and cultural creation are what motivate my pieces. Whether it be a performance, a self portrait, or watercolor pencils and ink I use my internal state of being to come out on the canvas. When creating this work first comes the internal and external inspiration - from my travels, surroundings, relationships. From there it takes form in whatever medium it wants to come through. And in finale as we are more of a technologically connected society more than ever - I take a photograph, edit it, and then post it with the writings on social media and allow the viewer to interact with the artwork and begin conversation about what it means for them. This process is not singularly for the artist, but a co-creative process with the audience. In a way a digital performance.
